These are scenes from the final day of the Season, showing our trip to Goddard's of Greenwich on Friday 21st May 2004.

We took in the village charms of Greenwich's backstreets, which proved to be a pleasant appetite builder for this auspicious event.

P-n-M old boy James Tanner — now known dynamically as 'Jet' — graced us with his considerable presence, as did last year's formidable champion Mr Graham Darlow. However, it was a two-hungry-horse race fought between 'the Old Firm' of the Pie and Mash League, Nick Evans and Richard Lucas.

The verified winner was duly congratulated and awarded, though not everyone present was able to share the joy and heartache of the in-store awards ceremony. A reward of a free pie and mash meal goes to the person who can successfully identify this sceptical observer.

As ever, the Mr Pound Tie was dusted off and donned for the photo call. Typically, a 'wide setting' is the preferred mode of wear. Not even a light drizzle could dampen the spirits of the contestants, as we bade our farewell to Greenwich for another season — our hearts lighter, our stomachs considerably heavier.

The champ sniffs the sweet smell of success, kisses the Realistic Clay Pies and tastes sweet victory!

Close but no cigar for the sullen silver-spooner. That scowl could turn liquor at fifty paces.

Will you look at this young under-achiever. Has he no shame?
