Please accept my humble apologies for this brief and tardy report, and remember, if you will, that all you have to do is eat the grub. The photographic montage above shows the Friday 14th March outing to Peter's Pie and Mash in Shadwell. Despite its unassuming facia and canteen-style interior, the food dished up by the eponymous proprietor (above centre) of this establishment turned out to be quality fare.

Shadwell has a gem in its bosom, you could say. According to Peter san, the shop is favoured by Japanese tourists who come in search of the England's culinary grail. There was a good mix of young and old as you might expect, although mine and Mr Darlow's double eel portions ran the reserves dry, signalling an early departure for one old lady in search of takeouts.

Reigning champ Rikk Lukas (left) turned up late and missed out on the fish course too. There he is, look, ministering to his pies with some of that hot stuff. It was good to see young Mr Lowing (right) after a long absence, as it allowed further discourse on his footballer's haircuts project. You will note the extensive chalkboards in the background, indicating the inevitable move towards product diversification 'n' eggs. It was all topped off with a searingly hot JRP for your correspondent, and with the sun high in the sky, I left the shop with that 'life is good' feeling.

This Friday we return to Clark's, Exmouth Market.
