The Genesis of Pie'n'Mash

In the beginning, Cook created pie and mash.

The mash was without form and void, and darkness was inside the deep interior of the pie. And the spoon of cook was hovering over the face of the boiling water. The Cook waved his spoon and said, 'Let there be eel', and lo,there was eel. And Cook saw that the eel was good. And Cook separated the eel from the boiling water.

Cook called the mash day, and the pie he called night. And there was pie and there was mash and eel, the first pie'n'mash. And Cook said, 'Let there be an expanse between the kitchen and the street where there may be benches and tables.' So cook made the expanse and separated the kitchen from the street outside it. And it was so.

Cook called the expanse a shop. And there were benches, and there were tables; the first pie and mash shop.

Now there was a man sent from his work place one lunchtime. His name was Richard Locust (St.Rikk).On that day, the 14th day of the 3rd month of the 2008th year of our Lord, he came to bear witness of a pie'n'mash meeting, that all men through him might believe. Gathered there, in the far corner of the back room were three fellow disciples, St. Alan, St.Graham, and St.Ed.

And St.Rikk (in the absence of St.Attus) upon observing St.Graham wrote:

"For I received from the Cook what he also passed on to St.Graham (though nowhere near as much): On this day, the day St.Attus Evans is absent, St.Graham took a pie, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, "This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Nick Evans." In the same way, after the pie he took up a spoon of liquor, saying, "This spoon is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of Nick Evans.For whenever you eat this pie and drink this liquor, you proclaim Nick's death until he comes back."

Anyway, Nick (your regular jocular journalist) was away in Spain, hence this flight of unshackled scribemanship. It was a modest and cosy affair. And I hear Nick has indeed come back.
