Advent 2006 marked the most southerly latitude yet attained by the Pie and Mash Raiders. The journey was long and arduous; four brave adventurers wended their way along the Meridian of Misery, otherwise known as the Northern Line. Delirious with hunger, Commander Lucas and Captain Evans saw 'Tooting' and prematurely alighted, finding themselves traversing the final leg across the barren wastelands between Bec and Broadway on foot.

Harrington's was duly located and though not as perfectly preserved as Scott's expeditionary staging posts, there was enough linoleum and strip lighting to timewarp us halfway back back to 1912. We were represented this day by expeditioners from all points of the compass: Tom Leader from the West, Bob Hollingsworth from the Far East, and Neil Dowden, who had the temerity to arrive from neighbouring Streatham in his automobile.

The pies were on the larger side and the eel portions generous and well seasoned; going was good to soft. Rikk Lucas demonstrates how the flesh can be separated from the cartilage using a discreet 'lozenging' technique.

Clearly Dowdie thought his slop-laden platter signalled the end of the meal; despite heated remonstration he fell foul of the Club's penalty point system. Please click here for details.

Harrington's Stairway to Heaven; Ooh, it makes me wonder, Ooh, it really makes me wonder. But I don't think this stairway's for sale.

Despite appearances and an unassuming side street locale, Harrington's has an address on the information super highway. However I have checked it and it's not open yet.

As is customary after a big feed there is an inclination to chat and a disinclination to move; as in all good establishments we didn't feel the need to dosh, nosh 'n' dash.
